Break Free From Plastic Pollution!

Join us in supporting Senator Merkely's #BreakFreeFromPlastic Pollution Act, a comprehensive plan to

address the plastic which pollutes our air, water, and land and disproportionately impacts low-income Americans and communities of color. The legislation would reduce plastic production, increase recycling, and protect frontline and fenceline communities from toxic plastic waste emissions. The bill mandates that corporations clean up the plastic they produce, creating a financial motivation to end the burning and dumping. It also eliminates waste export loopholes and extends across the nation existing and effective state and local laws. Check out the full details of the Break Free From PlasticPollution Act movement here.

What can you do?

2) Do you work for an organization which might consider endorsing the bill? Ask them!

3) Spread the word to all of your friends that we can do this to #BreakFreeFromPlastic Pollution

In the words of Senator Merkley: “Many of us were taught the three R’s—reduce, reuse, and recycle—and figured that as long as we got our plastic items into those blue bins, we could keep our plastic use in check and protect our planet. But the reality has become much more like the three B’s—plastic is buried, burned, or borne out to sea. The impacts on Americans’ health, particularly in communities of color and low-income communities, are serious. Plastic pollution is a full blown environmental and health crisis, and it’s time that we pass this legislation to get it under control.”
